Well Abandonment

well abandonment in geological challenging scenarios

The study of the capacity of shale and salt formations to act as natural barriers in well abandonment processes in order to decrease the associated costs, decrease the process time and reduce the environmental risks.

How can we help you?

Below is a short description of the key research areas. For further details or new researches, feel free to contact us.

Shale and Salt Mechanics

Correlate different constitutive models to foresee elastic and plastic behavior, in addition to transient and steady state creep behavior.

P

Annulus Pressure Build-up

Correlate the wellbore closure to the evolution of annulus pressurization in confined annular spaces.

Pressure and Thermal Effects

Evaluation of pressure (mud weight) and thermal (mud temperature) effects on wellbore/annular closure.

Contact Stress

Analysis of stress developed between rock formation and casing after total closure in order to guarantee that generated barrier could withstand any load after the abandonment of the well.

Experimental Infrastructure

Innovative technology to evaluate wellbore or annular closure in laboratory scale using hollow cylinder samples.

Our Customers
